Material Characteristics
Scientifically known as “Sunstone” or “Aventurine Feldspar,” this mineral belongs to the plagioclase group and is primarily composed of oligoclase.
Its name derives from the golden sparkle it reflects when exposed to light, caused by reddish-brown plate-like inclusions of hematite or goethite within the mineral.
This phenomenon is called the “sunshine effect” or “aventurescence.”
Sunstone exhibits pleochroism, showing different hues when viewed under different polarized light directions.
Generally colorless to transparent, it is most commonly found in shades ranging from yellow to orange. High-quality sunstones are usually semi-transparent and exhibit strong reflections from dark-colored inclusions.
